Mac Box Set: 10.5 + iLife + iWork

For those which would like to pass on iLife ‘09, you do not precipitate too quickly without knowing that it will initially be necessary for you to pass to Leopard. The addition is thus likely to be salted since it will be necessary to add the 129 € to the 79 € of iLife. And well once in a while does no harm, Apple proposes to us to make economies by buying for 169 € Mac Box Set, a software pack containing iLife 09, iWork 09 and Leopard. For 39 € of less thus, you will have iWork 09 moreover. Family Pack is with 229 €, that is to say 168 € of economy.

Do not forget however that SnowLeopard should arrive this year, and that it will thus be necessary to pass by again with the case to put again up to date your operating system…

Apple anxious to save the band-width?

The more time passes and the more the updates of Mac OS X and the associated components (updated safety, QuickTime…) are heavy. If one hardly pays attention to it when one has that only one computer, the things become complicated since one has some several, or a worse whole park. In this case, it is preferable to recover these updates in Combo version and then to return them on the machines via the network or a memory support, which remains long and complex.
According to 9to5mac, Apple could bring another more elegant solution via Time Capsule which could change, to the image of Mac OS X waiter, in a local waiter for these updates.
They would be downloaded above before being able to be automatically proposed on the machines present on the network. In addition to the considerable time-saver of remote loading, this solution would bring a large saving in band-width for the waiters of Apple which slow down at the time of the large updates produced, an economy on the level of the use of Akamai and it should not be forgotten for our operators Internet for whom the band-width consumed elsewhere costs also money.
PS: While remaining on the subject of Time Capsules, it became more interesting than ever to buy the model 500 Go and to replace the disc of it. The difference in tariff between the version 500 Go and 1 To remained of 200 €, whereas a disc of 1 To costs today largely less than 100 €. For hardly more one can even have a model 1,5 To. You will find the article describing the replacement of its disc to the following address: http://www.macbidouille.com/articles/244/

Next Eldorado of industry, 3D

Source: CDR InfoAlors which one is still in full transition towards the HD, and that Blu-ray still pains to convince, the industrialists think already of the next technological revolution which will enter our homes and on our computers. It will be the 3D. Already several manufacturers started to show their solutions owners which are more or less convincing, which requires glasses or not…
It is with the turn of Dolby, well-known for its audio solutions. The laboratory announced to work with a solution making it possible to record and restore video 3D on Blu-ray discs. It is put thus in competition with Philips and Panasonic which already presented their similar solutions, which promises a beautiful free-for-all to know which will gain the war of this standard and will impose it as normalizes via the BDA which will have to slice.
Of course, beyond their will to bring new experiment to you the intention hides to convince the consumers from here a few years that their TV HD and their Blu-ray reader became obsolete and to incite them to change some. But since time, one is accustomed there.

According to Macfixit, the person in charge of the recurring click of Superdrive occurring every 5 minutes on certain portables since the passage to Mac OS X 10.5.6 was identified.
This noise of ejection which one usually has at the exit of day before would be due to the Growl software which is used to allow other software like Adium, VLC, Tramsit…. to send notifications.

The RIAA gets rid of MediaSentry

Source: Wall street journalDepuis 2003, the RIAA, which takes care of the interests of the artists in the United States, was pressed on the MediaSentry company to collect the evidence of illegal downloading, which had led to 35.000 legal proceedings.
Since, the RIAA seeks other means to fight against the hacking and decided not to work more with its sulfurous partner. Indeed, MediaSentry was often shown to use not very orthodoxe methods to collect the data being used then as evidence.
The RIAA now seeks to impose on the United States on a side a form of measured reaction while cutting the access of the pirate Net surfers, and other to compromise with the universities in order to propose impunity in exchange of what resembles a global license.

The return of Freescale on the market general public?

Source: PC WorldCeux which knew Mac Power PC know that Freescale (division of Motorola become autonomous) made it possible Mac to know a beautiful time before putting Apple at the edge of the pit while being unable to make evolve/move rather quickly its processor.
The abandonment of Power PC by Apple signed the end of the presence of this company on the data-processing market general public.
She seeks today to make her return with processors low consumption and of low power (the malicious gossip will say inevitably), the i.MX515. Based on an architecture ARM they promise a compromise power/price consumption which will make it possible to the manufacturers of ultra portables to leave the machines under the bar of the 200$.
Of course, for lack of X86 instructions, these machines will have to use Linux or an owner system.
Note that the processor in question will have a maximum frequency of 1 Ghz and will also support video posting 3D.
Knowing the vexations which Apple with them knew, there are few chances that this product finished by being found in a Mac Table, especially since the repurchase of Semi Pa.

Delay for the next mobile platform Intel?

According to Digitimes, Intel could delay few months its next mobile platform called Calpella and based on Nehalem architecture.
It would be revealed in October 2009 instead of July/August. The fault would not return from there to engineering problems, but to the sales strategy of the founder who wants to leave more time to the manufacturers of portables to empty their stocks of current products, the crisis having slowed down the market.
It should be said that on the market of the portables, Intel does not have any more any adversary and can take all its time to manage the launches of new products.

Steve Jobs speaks about her weight loss

Dear Apple Community,

For the first time in a decade, I’m getting to spend the holiday season with my family, rather than intensely preparing for a Macworld keynote.

Unfortunately, my decision to have Phil deliver the Macworld keynote set off another flurry of rumors about my health, with some even publishing stories of me on my deathbed.

I’ve decided to share something very personal with the Apple community so that we can all relax and enjoy the show tomorrow.

As many of you know, I have been losing weight throughout 2008. The reason has been a mystery to me and my doctors. A few weeks ago, I decided that getting to the root cause of this and reversing it needed to become my #1 priority.

Fortunately, after further testing, my doctors think they have found the cause — a hormone imbalance that has been “robbing” me of the proteins my body needs to be healthy. Sophisticated blood tests have confirmed this diagnosis.

The remedy for this nutritional problem is relatively simple and straightforward, and I’ve already begun treatment. But, just like I didn’t lose this much weight and body mass in a week or a month, my doctors expect it will take me until late this Spring to regain it. I will continue as Apple’s CEO during my recovery.

I have given more than my all to Apple for the past 11 years now. I will be the first one to step up and tell our Board of Directors if I can no longer continue to fulfill my duties as Apple’s CEO. I hope the Apple community will support me in my recovery and know that I will always put what is best for Apple first.

So now I’ve said more than I wanted to say, and all that I am going to say, about this.

Steve

An express train high Card SATA performances

The AMUG passed to the grill the chart Tempo SATA Pro ExpressCard 34 of Sonnet.

This chart which proposes two independent connectors SATA is based on the chips Marvell 88SX7042 which is a top-of-the-range converter PCI Express towards SATA.
And in the facts, one obtains very interesting performances since a RAID 0 of two discs reaches the 177 Mo/s in writing and 199 Mo/s in reading.

At the time of this test, the AMUG noted a thing which will make squeak teeth.
Update EFI for MacBook Pro Unibody proposed during their tests deteriorated notably the performances of the charts tested (not only that of Sonnet) and makes lose not badly in flow. Whereas the performances before the update were identical between the new portables and the preceding range, they are then in favour of the old range from 38 to 61% (under extreme conditions, with a RAID of 5 discs). It seems well that it acts a bug concerning the EFI 1.6, and one will need certainly a new update, once Apple will have admitted this bug, so that it disappears.

Other figures on the sales of music in 2008

Source: TGdailyNielsen published a precise study on the sales of music in the United States in 2008.
It was sold over the year 1,51 billion musical products (albums, individual, video clips and numerical tracks) what represents a rise of 10,5% compared to 2007.
If the physical sales dropped by 14%, those dematerialized increased by 27% while the income generated by this channel increased by 32% to 65,8 million dollars.
All would seem well to occur during the passage towards the new economy if the Majors managed to find themselves there on this transfer of mode of consumption, which is not yet the case.
One will note to finish who the vinyl that one believed last in the trap door made like back, with a rise of the sales of 89% for a total of 1,88 million dollars.

Keynote of the MWSF J-1

Covers in Macworld

Here is a good means of creating a real passion around Macworld, of putting covers on the panels and the Apple stand as these photographs posted by Appleinsider show it.

In the register of the rumours, 9to5mac believes it that Apple could reveal Macbook Pro Unibody 17 ” which would be even finer, and would be equipped with a battery long life and big size, but irremovable, with the image of that of the Apple walkmans or of MacBook Air. Macrumors would have received concordant information.
The Macbook range would be also re-examined, with the disappearance of the old model of line entry and a tariff repositioning to replace it.

2008, the worst year for the music

Source: Dailytech2008 will be to mark of a black stone for the industry of the music. The first figures showed a Net retreat of the CD sales of almost 14% and to 45% since 2000 which was the culminating point, the golden age of the music.
Among the advanced reasons, the hacking appears of course at the head, but the success of other products as the video games are also quoted, which avoids very called in awkward question of this industry, once more.
The economic crisis seems also last under silence, while at the same time it was learned that for the first time the sales in line of products dropped at the time of the festivals of end of the year, quantifiable proof of the fall of consumption.
One can also quote the example of the Star Academy of the vintage 2008 which knew a lack of success without precedent, probable proof that the consumers have enough of them certain bad soups which one tries to make them swallow. And in this last case, impossible to blame the hacking. They quite simply were worse than ever.
